What’s here, what I’m working on, what comes next

The site has been online since September 7 and I run it on my own, on a PC of mine. This is how it’s going. There are no dates: when something is ready, it moves to the done list.

IN PROGRESS

LIVE

Near-live streaming

While you play, you send the video to my GPU and watch it back with DLSS 5 applied almost in real time. The groundwork is there: a DLSS preview now takes about 35 milliseconds per frame, down from 4.7 seconds in the first days. What’s left is getting the video there and back fast enough.

NEXT STEPS

  1. A second GPU

Right now everything runs on a single RTX 4090, split into four slots. A second card means a shorter queue at busy hours and room for streaming. After the electricity, it’s the first thing donations would go to.

  2. A real frame counter

The “more than 20,000 frames” you see around the site is an estimate made by hand, on the low side. I want the machine to count every frame it renders, and the number to go up on its own.

  3. Longer exports

Right now how much you can export depends on the slot’s time. I want to raise the ceiling, so a whole clip goes through in one go.

DONE

  1. Eleven languages, and “share” under every comparison

Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian and Polish are here. And under every comparison there’s a way to send it to someone.

  2. Variable frame rate videos

Videos recorded on a phone or with some capture apps change pace while they play. Now they get rewritten at a steady pace before they reach the GPU.

  3. The explicit content filter, at the door

Explicit material is stopped when you upload it, not afterwards. And if you think the filter got it wrong, there’s a place to say so.

  4. The catalogue on the home page

Comparisons published by people using the site show up at the top of the home page, with their images.

  5. A comparison to take with you

Every comparison downloads as a side-by-side PNG or as a GIF that flips between ON and OFF, both made in the browser without touching the GPU.

  6. Real frames as you scrub, and a stamp on the DLSS side

Scrubbing the timeline shows the real frames of your video, and the DLSS 5 side carries a stamp that says what it is.

  7. A DLSS client of our own

A DLSS session stays open for the whole slot instead of restarting at every frame. A preview went from 4.7 seconds to about 35 milliseconds.

  8. The Studio, the catalogue, seven languages

The first version: you upload a video, tune the parameters while looking at one frame, and export. With a public catalogue and the site in seven languages.

WHY IT STAYS FREE

If you’d like to help me get there

Everything above stays free for everyone, including what isn’t here yet. Donations pay for the electricity and, when there’s enough, the second card.

Even €1 is fine: that’s 1,000 frames in the community reserve for whoever comes after you. Donating gets you nothing the others don’t have, and streaming, once it exists, will belong to everyone like the rest.
